Urethane Plastics
Siltool
Siltool A/B Tan colored, two-component, Urethane Plastic system that is easy to process, exhibits low exotherm (170F - 77C maximum), and de-molds in 15-20 minutes, making rapid production rates possible.
Applications:
Model kits, prototypes, plastic parts and picture frames, models, and other similar items not requiring high temperature resistance.
Typical Physical Properties:
Solids by Weight (%) : 100%
Shrinkage: Unfilled-- .009, Filled-- less than .001
Density: 64lb CU3FT or 5.3lb 12”x12”x1” THICK
Viscosity @ 74 F (CPS): 150 A/ 250 B
Typical Cured Material Properties:
Color: Tan
Hardness: 65D
Tensile Strength (psi): 3389
Elongation (percent at yield): 12.5
Reactivity Data:
Gel Time: 3 min.
De-mold Time: 15 – 20 min.
Mixing Ratio, By Weight: 50 parts A / 50 parts B
*Reactivity times are influenced by many equipment variables, including size of pour, shape of part, ambient temperature and humidity.
Processing Instructions:
Blend components "A" and "B" with mixing stick for about 12 to 15 seconds. Do not use high shear mixers unless mixture contains filler. Pour immediately into the mold--if mold is non-silicone, use appropriate release. Do not disturb the mold until part is ready to be de-molded. Pressurize mold to aid in air release when needed. Painting or coating operations can be performed when material is fully cured 24-72 hours at 75F. Post cure at 100F for several hours can speed up cycle after 24 hours room temperature cure. Wash the surface to be painted with grease devolving soap or mineral spirits before painting. Off ratio can cause oily surfaces, which will limit paint adhesion. Please pre-test all coatings
Storage/Shelf Life:
Siltool A/B components must be stored in their original, unopened containers at temperatures between 75F and 85F. Shelf life of materials when kept in unopened sealed containers, at the recommended storage conditions, is 6 months. Containers shall not be opened until ready for immediate use. To avoid air entrapment, undue agitation of containers shall be avoided.
ACCESSORIES
Colorants: Added to B-Component @ 1-2%
CU Pigments Red, Yellow, White, Blue, Black, Flesh, Brown UD Translucent Dye Red, Black, Blue Yellow
Fillers:
Fillers may be incorporated into urethane resin to change the weight, color, cost, texture and paintability. Several fillers are available to fit an application. Fillers should be handled and stored carefully to avoid contamination of moisture. Always mix fillers into part A, which is lower in viscosity, then add proper amount of B when ready to cast a part. Metallic fillers should be mixed when ready to use because they can accelerate the cure drastically. (Listed below)
PE MINI FIBERS are used to bulk up system for Troweled-On processes for parts or mother molds. Pre-mixed PE fibers into Siltool A side at 5% or 10% by weight. When ready to use add Siltool B at equal weight of A only, mix and quickly apply to mold or surface. Applying additional layers should be done immediately before material has fully cured. Cold weather below 65 f will cause slow cure.
CC-200 Limestone to lower cost and add weight to material. Recommended amounts are 50-200%.
GAP-25 Aluminum mixture for low shrink and excellent thermal conductivity for vacuum form tooling. Recommended amounts are 20-100%.
GF-3000 Glass Beads, aids in density and scratch resistance, reduces shrinkage for masters patterns. Recommended amounts are 200%.
HGF-100 Hollow glass filler for lightweight parts. Recommended amount is 5-10%.
MP-200 Marble Powder used to simulate White Marble. Recommended amount is 50-200%.
Thermolite Non abrasive, light- weight filler. Recommended amounts are 50 - 100%.
