Clear Casting Resins

Clear Plastic (RU-575)

Attention, open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

RU-575 A/B is a low viscosity, water clear urethane plastic with an easy mix ratio--1 to 1 by volume. RU-575 is great for small and medium sized parts: lens, model windows, prototypes, decorative objects, and clear injection plastic like parts. Provides UV stability for longer, non-yellowing water clarity. **Use Platinum RTV silicone molds for casting.

Mixing Instructions:
Mix A & B by proper ratio and de-air or pressurize in mold to remove any air bubbles. If possible, de-air A & B components prior to mixing to remove any air. Clean stirrers and mixing containers should be used. Avoid using paper or wax-lined cups, which can react with resin and create bubbles in finished part. Use a clean, dry plastic container and allow 2‑3 times the volume of the starting material available for expansion when de-airing the mixture. Processing area should be controlled to eliminate dust and particles from mixture. Clear castings are sensitive to any foreign materials or air bubbles, which may appear during exothermic reaction if not processed properly. Urethanes are moisture sensitive and may react with moisture leaving bubbles or growth by foam formation on part.

Casting:                                                                                                                  RU-570 A/B must be cast in Platinum Silicone Molds or in a properly processed Tin Silicone Mold (R-1300 Series) that has been post cured at 150-200F for 4-6hours.  Parts are more easily sandable and buffable than the RU-570 system.

Curing:
Let part solidify at room temperature till cured. For non-fully cured parts, finish cure process in oven or exposure to 100 to150F for 5- 12 hrs, depending on part size. Using a pre-heated mold (125-150ºf) may resolve issues of shrinkage around surface and corners, due to inconsistent heat distribution. Parts may need to be post cured in mold to retain dimensional stability, especially for thin or top heavy parts. Parts can then be wheel buffed under 500RPM to prevent burning.

Storage:
Materials should be sealed and stored in a dry area at room temperatures above 65F.
