Silicone Thickening Agent Tin RTV (THIX 5170)
THIX #5170 is a thickening agent (Thixotropic) used to create a low sag rubber compound used to build large, or small, thin bladder silicone molds using Tin RTV R-1000 Systems.
Color: Clear liquid
Specific Gravity: .99
Mix Ratio: 2 to 3% added to Part A
Viscosity: 2500 cps
Mix and Use Instructions:
Add Thix #5170 to Part A of R-1000 system compound before properly catalyzing. Thickening will become present within seconds of the addition of agent. Thix #5170 will create different flow control viscosities for each type of Tin RTV silicone system. Add PE Mini Fibers for a peanut butter like consistency. Care must be taken to avoid air entrapment, which affects mold durability. An air gun or hair dryer can be used to work out bubbles from surface. Cloth material can be added to strengthen rubber mold, but it will limit any elongation in the mold. It is recommended that the first few coats should be applied with un-thickened RTV to assure highest detail.
MIXING:
Mix 2% to 3% of THIX #5170. This will cause base to thicken. Then mix in Catalyst.
