Silicone Softening Fluid (F-100)

Attention, open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

F-100 is a dimethylpolysiloxane fluid characterized by a high flash point and low surface tension. It is used to thin Silicone RTV viscosity and lower cured rubber hardness. With increased amounts of fluid, gel and cure times will be prolonged with a possible permanent gel state at 100% levels.

The silicone fluid has exceptional properties as indicated below:

· Excellent high and low temperature resistance.

· Excellent resistance to oxidation and hydrolysis.

· Chemically inert and non‑corrosive.

· Excellent resistance to atmospheric constituents, such as oxygen, ozone, water and ultraviolet radiation.

· High compressibility.

· Small change in viscosity due to variations in temperature.

· Incompatibility with organic substances.

· Low surface tension.

Typical Properties of Silicone Fluid:

Viscosity @ 25C (77F) in centistokes F 100

Specific Gravity @ 25C (77F) 0.97

Flash Point, Open Cup F 570F

Refractive Index @ 25C 1.403

Surface Tension, dynes/cm 20 – 21

Shelf Life: 12months

*These properties are typical values and are not intended for use as specifications.

Mixing Instructions:

Add F-100 fluid to the Silicone RTV rubber mix. Catalyst of RTV should be calculated at the amount of A-side (Base) only-- prior to the addition of fluid. The addition of 10-15% fluid will lower the hardness by 5-10 points. RTV performance will decline in terms of strength and increase cure time with higher levels of fluid. Pre-test to ensure satisfactory performance.
